ARC Welding

Arc welding is a group of welding process where in coalescence is produced by heating with an electric arc or, arcs, mostly without the application of pressure and with or without the use of filler metal depending upon the base metal plate thickness. In the welding process of SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc welding) wherein coalescence is produced by heating the work piece with an electric arc set up between a fluxes coated electrode and the work place. The flux covering decomposes due to heat and perform many functions like arc stability, weld metal protection etc. the electrode itself melts and supplies the necessary filler metal. The flux coating melts produces a gaseous shield and slag to prevent atmospheric contamination of the molten weld metal.

2. The equipments can be portable and the cost is fairly low.

2. Shielded metal arc welding is used both as a fabrication process and for maintenance and repair jobs.
3. Also application in air receiver, tank, boiler, pressure vessel fabrication, ship building, pipe joining, building and bridge construction, automotive and air craft industry etc.
